As April faded and the season drew to a close, Bangor City Stadium witnessed the full spectrum of football’s emotions - joy, heartbreak, and everything in between. From the incredible high of Penrhosgarnedd Under 15s lifting their league titles, to the heartache of Bangor 1876’s relegation and their narrow loss in the WBS League Cup Final. Here’s a look back at a defining chapter in the stadium’s season.

April opened with the pressure on, with two important fixtures taking place in its opening week. Bangor 1876 first team faced Caersws, as they looked to pull themselves closer to safety, with Penrhosgarnedd Under 15s on the other side of the table, looking to complete their league season as undefeated champions.

On the morning of Saturday 5th, only hours before 1876 faced their crunch fixture, Penrhos U15s secured their league title – and they did it as undefeated champions. The day started strong, and positivity was rife as the juniors headed to the Bangor City Stadium to show their support for the Bangor first team.

However, it wasn’t to be that afternoon for Bangor 1876 – as they looked to further add to the morning’s good news. In the final moments of their tie, Caersws grabbed a last gasp goal to make it 2-1 and in turn securing a victory away from home. And, so began a month of triumphs and heartbreak.

As Bangor 1876 edged closer towards the drop zone, CPDM Bangor were able to ensure they avoided it – and, despite their final game of the season ending in defeat to Flint Town United, they had secured themselves their spot within the Genero Adran North for the 2025/26 season.

Coach Aron Griffith gave us his thoughts as he reflected on their season, and looked ahead to the next:

“Our main aim again this season was securing safety in the Adran North, and we’ve done just that. There’s still a lot of improvement for us to try and get right next season for us to try and push on.

I’ve been extremely proud of the girls this season; we’ve experienced every emotion this season, with the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows, but we’ve learnt a lot on the way. It’s a tough league to be a part of, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. A big preparation is needed now for the 25/26 season

With CPDM Bangor safe and secure within Tier 2 for next season, it was now down to Bangor 1876 to pull off the same feat in the JD Cymru North as they travelled to Ruthin.

Arriving at Bala Town’s Maes Tegid, the temporary home of Ruthin Town, 1876 had the Blue Army in full voice behind them. For 83 minutes, Michael Johnston’s men held on to a 0-0 draw, but it was a name familiar to Bangor fans that would deal a wounding blow. Former Bangor City striker Jamie Reed struck the back of the net with seven minutes left to play. Unable to level the score, on the final whistle fate was sealed – relegation was assured.

With April coming to an end and the league now over, focus shifted to the WBS League Final as Bangor 1876 looked to end the season with some positivity, and silverware. However, despite a valiant effort, and a strong performance it was league runners up Airbus who were the side lifting the trophy following a 2-1 victory.

Though April brought its fair share of heartache, it also reminded us why football means so much to this city. In the league triumph of Penrhosgarnedd U15s, we saw the bright future of the game in Bangor - young players lifting silverware and inspiring the younger age groups before them. CPDM Bangor’s hard-fought survival in Tier 2 stands as a testament to resilience and belief. And throughout every high and low, the unwavering support of the Blue Army has never faltered, showing once again that this club is built on more than just results - it’s built on community, pride, and passion. As we close the chapter on this season, we do so with hope, hunger, and our eyes firmly fixed on the journey ahead.
